Ruby's story is
quite interesting. Her breeder, Curinn Hicks, came here with
Angie (Ruby's mother) and bred her to Quno two separate times, which
did not produce puppies. I begged Curinn
to come back to Quno one more time, but to leave Angie here. I
could see the quality of Angie, and knew the combo would be great. Curinn agreed.
After doing progesterone
tests, we discovered Angie was not ready to be bred until day 21,
which is particularly late. We bred
her and she had seven pups. Curinn called and said the one female
is nice, but long in back and a bit backward in temperament. It wasn't until our No. Ohio GSD
Show that I could see the
pups myself. Curinn brought the one female and one male. She said she didn't like the female, and she was for sale as a
pet.
I took one look at
that puppy and fell in love. She
was not shy, just reserved, aloof. But, for some reason,
she came right up to me, kissing me, and I was hooked. I had
unfortunately just lost my dog and felt this was "meant to
be."
I named
her Ruby; she was 11 weeks old. I started her as a house
pet, and didn't begin thinking of showing her until she was 6 months
old. She has never faltered in temperament and is actually
a VERY sound dog.
Her first time in
the ring was spectacular: 1st place GSDC of Canada 2000 Nationals,
under Judge Leon Breault (shown below).

Ruby's second time in the ring, at
the GSDC of America 2000 National Specialty show, she
again was 1st place under Judge Helen
Franklin.
Ruby's co-owners
were also "love at first sight" people. Leslie and Joe Beccia saw Ruby at her Futurity, where she won 2nd place under Helen
Miller Fisher.
Having the
Beccias as co-owners has been spectacular. Joe and
Leslie are the most wonderful people to be with. They have
supported Ruby and I to the fullest. It has become a
wonderful relationship, which has included many beautiful German Shepherds.
Winning Grand
Victrix in Canada Under Judge Ed Barritt, and then going BEST OF BREED and Grand Victrix at the American National under Judge Dave Rinke was the thrill of a lifetime for both the
Beccias and myself.
